It is 清明 today, a day to commemorate one's ancestors. During this period, the whole family or clan would visit their ancestors' graves to clean up and to give offerings. The tombs have to be maintained properly, so that the fortunes of the descendants will be maintained.

Unfortunately, less and less people are doing it now. The young is not aware of the importance and meaning behind this festival, and the old had forgotten. It is sad. I feel it is the reason why the elderly are not being respected in this society. And nobody wants to employ anyone above 45yo. Experiences are not considered as an asset anymore. Unless one is in the top management, those employees around the 35 to 45 yo age group, in the mid-level management, will be the first to be sacrificed, when a company wants to do some cost-cutting.

Then after that, what are you left with? CEOs and CFOs and GMs who think it is beneath them to get down to basics. And the newbie managers who have been pampered for so long at home by maids and mothers that they do not know how to think on their feet anymore.

I think this job is making me really pessimistic about the future. Posted by Picasa
