Today we planned to clean Max up, and to see what exactly is causing his fur on the paws and chin to be wet and matted.

We reached Max's place just after 11am, after 40 minutes travel. He is friendly and curious, and seems to like people. Unfortunately he really was in a sorry state. The fur was clumpy, the eyes teary, the face covered with residues from the eyes and nose. Luckily the back was clean and fluffy. But the fur on his abdomen was wrinkled. And he was a bit smelly.

He didn't complain when we started to trim and clip the matted clumpy fur from his cheeks, tail, paws and backside, and trimmed the fur in between the paw pads. He looked much better already, especially after a brush.

We decided to bath him. He hated it of course, but he didn't scream, just struggled from time to time. We gave him a good wash until the water runs clear, and give him a good clean of the face. After that we let him dry off by himself, and brush repeatedly to remove the clumps and kinks. We blow dry him afterwards, and he was very cooperative, just lying on his back. More brushing followed, and his fur is looked as good as new. I think he may have experience with the grooming process before, so he was rather stoic.

After all the excitement, Max seemed to have forgiven us, and batted his toy mouse around. He had a snack, a long drink and a nap. I am sure he is feeling much better with all the dirts gone from his body and face. His eyes will still be teary, but then we just have to clean them regularly to prevent build-ups. And to brush the fur once a week, to maintain it.

At least we had done something useful today. Posted by Picasa
